The Peninsula @ Porto Elounda de Luxe Resort
Home Theater
The home theatre of The Peninsula at Porto ELounda de Luxe Resort has been designed by New York - based designer Theo Kalomirakis, the foremost designer of private theatres worldwide and inventor of the term "home theatre". Having always believed that a home theatre would be a tremendous addition to the facilities of a luxury hotel, Kalomirakis jumped onto the opportunity given to him at the Peninsula and designed a theatre based on the simplicity of ancient Greek forms. As he said in one of his interviews: "In ancient Greece, theatres were everything, and they were built on symmetry. This space here had to reflect the ancient Greek ideal of symmetry." Characterised by simple harmonious lines and immaculate acoustics, the theatre serves both as an ideal venue for the screening of films, as well as small meetings utilising cutting-edge presentation technology.
Constructed with the strict THXTM standards, the cinema features a perforated screen with speech-speaker behind it and a patented THX-box for maximising sound output. The BARCO® projector with super wide-screen lens produces sharp images of ideal definition at all lighting settings due to its dual-lamp technology. The surround sound-system utilises 9 cinema-grade JBL® speakers (including two sub-woofers) and four Proceed® amplifiers dedicated to individual channels. The system allows for wired communication and projection from the central control room, the stage, and the translation-booth, as well as wireless communication from every seat. Lighting is controlled by a central LUTRON® console and peripheral switches, allowing for the setting of many different lighting “scenes”, as well as the individual dimming of four independent lighting circuits. The theatre is also pre-wired for any foreseen advance, including Fire-Wire and SDI technologies.
