Lassithi
Lassithi
Lassithi is the easternmost region of Crete and the most southeasterly part of Greece and Europe, the famous birthplace of the legendary Father of the Gods Zeus. The area’s Venetian heritage is apparent in the buildings of Spinalonga a rock isle at the entrance to Elounda Bay, the site of the ruins of a fortified castle built in 1526 to prevent enemy ships entering the harbour, the Sitia and the Ierapetra fortress. Apart from its dramatic landscape, mild climate and beautiful beaches, the area has a well-developed tourism infrastructure catering for both the business and leisure traveller. Lassithi is home to some of the most luxurious hotels in the country and one of the most upmarket resorts in Greece, Elounda. Coupled with warm hospitality, the area is an ideal conference and meetings destination.
