Syros
Syros houses the governing body of the Cyclades and is the capital of the islands. The capital town of Ermoupolis named after the God Hermes is referred to as the “Queen of the Cyclades”. Built amphitheatrically in the mid-19th century its architecture is a mixture of neo-classical buildings, old mansions and white Cycladic houses cascading down to the harbour. The Miaouli Square in the centre of Ermoupolis is domed with numerous cafes and has a grandeur of its own. The two most important buildings are the Town Hall and the Apollo Municipal Theatre that is a miniature copy of La Scala in Milan. There are a number of churches worth visiting like the one dedication to Ascension of the Virgin which has an early El Greco as well as numerous museums exhibiting local finds dating back to the Cycladic civilisation. Syros is ideal for a small-scale conference or an incentive. There are three properties catering for the business traveller.
