Chios
The island of Chios is supposedly the birthplace of Home. Its landscape is varied and its main crop is mastic the “chew in chewing gum” produced by trees that grow nowhere else in the world.
Its capital and primary port is also called Chios a lively town on the east coast of the island. Chios is a blend of traditional and modern which gives it its special character. The large mediaeval castle that dominates the harbour encloses the old section of the town whose houses are richly decorated with lattice windows and balconies.
The island is easily accessible from both Athens as the island has an airport.
